Giant recalls TCR forks after cracks reported

Giant has decided to recall all carbon forks on the triathlon specific 2009 TCR Advanced SL Team, SL 0, SL 1, SL 2, and SL (ISP) model bicycles, following one reported cracking incident in the US. No injuries have been reported to date.

The forks appear on frames in silver, charcoal, blue and red. The words ‘Giant’ and ‘TCR Advanced SL’ are printed on the frame. Steerer tubes with ‘B’, ‘N’ or ‘P’ at the end of the serial number are not included in this recall. Likewise, other TCR model bicycles are not included in the recall.

The forks, manufactured in Taiwan, were sold via authorised Giant Bicycle dealers nationwide across the US, from August 2008 through to December 2008, for between US$3,300 and US$7,500.

According to a statement from Giant around 1,000 units have been sold since August 2008. A company release adds that, ‘Consumers should stop riding these bicycles immediately and contact an authorized Giant Bicycle dealer for a free inspection and replacement fork.’
