Speedo is sponsoring Britain’s double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington as the new face of its swimwear brand.
During the 2008 Olympics, and wearing Speedo’s revolutionary LZR Racer swimsuit, Adlington, became the first British woman to win an Olympic swimming gold since 1960. She joins eight times gold medallist Michael Phelps as one of Speedo’s official faces.
Phelps has been sponsored by Speedo since he was a teenager and reportedly, as part of his contract, received a US$1 million (€0.78 million) bonus for winning over seven gold medals in a single Games.
Speedo President Dave Robinson said, “Rebecca Adlington has already established herself as an outstanding swimmer and has a long, bright future ahead of her. She is a great ambassador for both Speedo and the sport of swimming and we look forward to working with her and help her to build what is sure to be an impressive career throughout the coming years.”
Commenting on the signing Adlington added; “For me, 2008 was filled with some unbelievable achievements. I am thrilled to be starting this new year with Speedo, one of the most iconic sports brands in the world. I am looking forward to another fantastic year in 2009 with Speedo by my side. “
