Howard Vine has been appointed to the position of Chairman of the British Triathlon Rules and Technical Committee effective 1 October 2010.
A former Board Director for Age Group teams, Vine recently stepped down to focus on his technical officiating involvement in the build up to 2012 – as British Triathlon strives to create a real volunteer legacy for the sport.
The British Triathlon Rules and Technical Committee brings together representatives of the Home Nations to devise and recommend strategy for growing technical officiating capacity at a national level and ensuring the continued safe operation of events within Great Britain.
Vine said, “I am looking forward to the role of developing the Referees and Technical Officials structure in collaboration with the Home Nations representatives and the British Triathlon staff.”
Ian Braid, Director of Events on the British Triathlon Board added, “Having the right number and the right quality of officials in our sport is vitally important if we are to have the infrastructure in place to meet the demand for triathlon across the Great Britain that will be stimulated by both the London Olympics and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
“This is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss and I am delighted Howard has accepted this position to lead in this area. Having worked together with Howard at both a regional and national level I know he has the right knowledge and abilities to deliver in the timescales we have set.”
