Personal hydration gear and hydration system specialist CamelBak has appointed Chris Strain as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.
In this role, Strain will be responsible for strategic development and execution of CamelBak’s global brand-building initiatives across the company’s recreation and military divisions. He will report directly to Sally McCoy, CamelBak CEO.
"Chris brings a wealth of brand experience and a track record of creating strong and meaningful consumer and sports marketing programs," McCoy said. “He shares our commitment to eliminate disposable bottles and will strengthen the brand platform to move us even closer to that goal in ways that are unique to CamelBak.”
Strain has more than 20 years experience building brands in multiple categories, including action sports, footwear, beverages and youth culture products.
Prior to joining CamelBak, Strain was a partner at Outside Labs and created its SCAPE Athlete brand and accompanying products. He also served as Vice President of Global Marketing at Vans, which was acquired by Vanity Fair Corporation during his six-year tenure.
At Vans, he was responsible for brand positioning, advertising, public relations, events, athlete sponsorships and retail marketing. Strain has additional sports marketing and brand building experience from his time as Brand Manager at Mountain Dew and All Sport at PepsiCo.
"For years I have respected CamelBak for its innovative product development and sustained leadership in hydration gear for people who push the boundaries in sports and active pursuits," Strain said.
"The more I became familiar with its vision and values, the more I realised I wanted to be a part of this team. This is a brand with tremendous growth potential, but, more importantly, the potential to make a huge positive impact on people’s lives and the environment around them.”
