Just a few weeks after being crowned Britain’s most visited online bike website, Wiggle has been shortlisted for two titles in the e-Commerce Awards for Excellence. It has been nominated for Best Customer Experience as well as the Cross Border e-Retail Award.
Martin Talbot, Wiggle’s Director of Marketing, said, "We are delighted to have been shortlisted for these awards. Both nominations come in categories in which we strive for excellence, so it is reassuring for us and our customers that we are among the best in the business."
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held at London’s Millennium Gloucester Hotel on Tuesday 19 October. Last year more than 300 people attended the ceremony, which attracted many of the senior decision makers who are the driving force of the online industry.
With the Cross Border e-Retail Award, judges will be looking for growth in overseas business. With 3.4 million worldwide visitors to its site this July – and a 416% increase in overseas transactions in the past year – Wiggle will be hoping its figures impress the judges.
Wiggle now ships road bikes and mountain bikes, amongst other products, to more than 70 countries around the globe and the majority of shoppers are able to browse the site in their own language and currency.
In the Best Customer Experience category, judges want to see evidence of outstanding customer service, innovative use of technology, excellent offers and informative product descriptions.
The e-Commerce Award nominations follow Experian Hitwise UK naming Wiggle as Britain’s most visited bikes website during the first half of 2010. This is a title it has enjoyed every year since 2006. Wiggle was also ranked fourth overall in the sport and fitness retail industry sector.
Wiggle.co.uk started life as Butlers Cycles, a small independent bike shop in Portsmouth which had been trading since 1920. After initial success selling bike parts and other items online, Wiggle.co.uk was officially launched in 1999. From there, it has expanded to the current 45,000 sq foot warehouse where at any time there can be more than 250,000 products in stock.
