Competitor Group acquires SBR Triathlon Events

Competitor Group Inc (CGI), the leading media and event resource in the active lifestyle industry, has confirmed the acquisition of the SBR Triathlon Series from the team behind the popular online and retail store SBRshop.com.

Entering its fifth year, the two-event SBR series of USAT-sanctioned sprint triathlons kicks off this weekend in New York’s scenic Harriman State Park. The second event, scheduled for Saturday, August 13, 2011, will be rebranded as part of CGI’s TriRock Triathlon Series – becoming TriRock New York presented by SBR.

“We are excited to bring the TriRock Series to the greater New York metro area and joining forces with a retail partner like SBR is a natural fit,” said Scott Dickey, President of CGI. “Both companies share a vision of pushing the sport of triathlon beyond its niche endurance reputation, while supporting the active and vibrant triathlon community in the Northeast.”

CGI organizes the 24-event Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series and publishes both Triathlete Magazine and Inside Triathlon. The TriRock Series events have a fun and entertaining atmosphere, which is ideal for the beginner triathlete looking to get more experience as well as the seasoned athlete looking to test their speed in a short course race.

2011 TriRock series schedule
TriRock Seattle – July 17, 2011
TriRock New York presented by SBR – August 13, 2011
TriRock San Diego – September 11, 2011
TriRock Gettysburg – October 16, 2011

Organized by Competitor Group, the TriRock Series successfully debuted in San Diego on Sunday, September 12, 2010. TriRock has certainly put the rock into triathlon, taking the racing experience to the next level. Race courses feature varying distances while triathletes can listen to their favourite tunes with live bands positioned along the route and transition area. Each event features a finish line festival with a red carpet finish, beer garden, food and a post-race concert.

New York’s musical multisport mash-up (presented by SBR) will feature a ½ mile swim, 16 mile bike and 3.1 mile run. The event will include live bands along the swim, bike and run courses, followed by a post-race party and concert.
