World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) has announced an addition to its European team. Rolf Aldag will join WTC as Managing Director, Germany. Aldag has an extensive background in professional cycling and has served as the Team Manager of Team HTC-Highroad professional cycling since 2007. Under his management, Team HTC-Highroad earned a reputation as the most successful and innovative professional cycling team in the world, winning more than 500 races since 2008.
Endurance industry experience
Aldag brings a deep experiential and technical knowledge of endurance sports to his new role as Managing Drector. An accomplished German cyclist, Aldag rode in the Tour de France 10 times, raced in 16 world championships, participated in two Olympic Games and is a former German national champion.
After he retired from professional cycling, he completed Ironman Lanzarote, known as one of the most challenging events in the global Ironman series, and qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Kona.
“Rolf is an exceptional addition to WTC’s global management team,” said Andrew Messick, WTC’s CEO. “He has a lifetime of experience in the endurance sports world and has distinguished himself as a leader and manager. We are confident that under Rolf’s leadership, WTC will continue to grow in Germany and across Europe.”
“I enjoy triathlon and seeing athletes overcome challenges,” said Aldag. “People want to test their limits, and Ironman allows them to do it under the best conditions. I am happy to become part of the WTC family and to help endurance athletes achieve their goals.”
New European Operations Director
In addition, following the recent appointment of Stefan Petschnig to oversee the Ironman business in Europe & South Africa, Kai Walter has been named to the new role of Managing Director, European Operations. Walter will create a single efficient and integrated operational platform across all European events in the WTC portfolio.
“After spending the last decade developing Ironman events in Germany, I’m looking forward to building a platform to enhance operational consistency and accommodate the tremendous growth we expect,” Walter said.
“Kai’s expertise makes him invaluable as we continue to integrate our European operations across the continent,” added Petschnig.
