Fit-N-Wise is an expanding beginner friendly triathlon series in North Texas under the guidance of health care specialist Wise Regional Health System.
The 2011 Fit-N-Wise Triathlon series includes four races held in Decatur, Texas. The series includes a kids triathlon, a sprint triathlon, a corporate triathlon relay and an all-women’s sprint triathlon. All races are geared towards beginners.
The series kicks off on Mother’s Day weekend with the Hooty’s Kids Triathlon on 7 May. This event provides a safe and exciting experience for kids, ages 10 and under, to experience their first triathlon. Race distances vary depending on age.
On 11 June, Fit-N-Wise will host its 5th Annual Try the Tri event. This sprint triathlon includes a 250-yard swim, 8 mile bike and 2 mile run. The swim takes place in an indoor, heated pool. The bike is on a scenic, country road with a few rolling hills to keep the course challenging and the run is a fast course on paved concrete.
The new, Corporate Tri Relay will bring together teams of three individuals to each compete in one of the triathlon disciplines on 9 July. This is an opportunity for those who may be unable to compete in a full triathlon, but want to be part of the fun. Corporate trophies will be provided to the top three male, female and mixed divisions.
The triathlon series will end in August with the new, Hula Girl Tri. This all-women’s triathlon follows the same distances and course as the Try the Tri. The event will be a non-intimidating atmosphere for women of all ages to compete and enjoy a fun and rewarding experience.
All of the triathlons in the series are geared towards beginner triathletes looking to get started in the sport. The races are limited to 100 participants per race (100 teams for the Corporate Tri Relay), so that athletes don’t feel lost in the crowd, and are staffed with enthusiastic race volunteers. Athletes of every body type, age and fitness level are welcomed.
In addition to the Triathlon events, Fit-N-Wise will be hosting its annual Triathlon Training Program.
The 4-week program meets twice-a-week and is designed for anyone looking to do their first triathlon or those who have completed a triathlon, but would like more experience and basic information on training and racing.
Coach Mike Bowers, a triathlon veteran, provides hands-on instruction integrated with group workouts designed to maximize triathlon experience and performance.
The training program is US$200 for the 8-week session, beginning on 2 May and includes entry into the Try the Tri event. The class size is limited and has sold out every year.
