TYR Inc has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Federazione Italiana Triathlon (FITRI), which extends through the 2012 Olympic Games.
The partnership between wetsuit and apparel specialist TYR and the Italian Triathlon Federation will ‘maximize synergies of the two brands in Italy and on the global stage.’
“Triathlon in Italy is a brand new world of sport,” said Carlo Bonza, Manager of TYR’s European distribution.
“Whether people are coming from other sports, or they are approaching triathlon because they are fascinated by the sport as a complete discipline, it is an outdoor sport for all ages. In recent years, the sport of triathlon has seen the most growth in Italy in both participants and results.”
TYR will outfit the Italian tri federation at international events and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In addition, the new partnership will give TYR a brand presence in all competitions on the Italian Federal Circuit – with peak participation ranging from 800 to 1300 athletes per event.
“We will devote our energy to strengthening the roots of the TYR brand in Italy,” continued Bonza.
“We want to ensure growth of the Italian Federation as well as furthering TYR’s presence in the European market. We believe in this partnership and hope it will bring great success for both TYR and for the Federation.”
FITRI President, Renato Bertrandi shared his thoughts on partnering with TYR. “It is with great pleasure that I signed the sponsorship agreement between FITRI and TYR.
“Our partnership is a win-win situation, where TYR can improve their materials with suggestions straight from elite and age group athletes in the field, while FITRI can give TYR increased visibility in one of the world’s fastest growing sports.
FITRI looks forward to an on-going fruitful and above all ‘winning’ road to the 2012 Olympics in London together with TYR.”
Other TYR partnerships with national sports governing bodies include: USA Triathlon, Ironman, the German Swimming Federation (DSV), the French Swimming Federation (FFN), the Danish Swimming Federation, and US Masters Swimming.
According to TYR, over 30 of the world’s top triathletes switched to TYR’s Hurricane Wetsuit before it was even launched. Key triathlete sponsorships include 3-time Ironman World Champion Chrissie Wellington and Ironman Champion Andy Potts.
