USA Triathlon (USAT) and GU Energy Labs – creator of the original performance energy gel – have agreed to an exclusive partnership that designates the Berkeley, California-based company as a new Silver-Level Sponsor of the National Governing Body through to 2013.
The agreement is specific to the category of energy gels and chews.
The broad-based sponsorship benefits a number of USA Triathlon programs and constituent groups, including the USAT’s annual members, certified coaches, certified race directors, regions and its National Team Program.
Likewise, through the partnership, GU’s alignment with USA Triathlon provides the company with exposure to thousands of the nation’s top age-group athletes, events and programs on an annual basis.
As the official energy gel and energy chew provider to USA Triathlon, GU Energy Labs will supply GU Energy Gels and Chomps to support a variety of USA Triathlon programs, such as USA Triathlon National Championship events, Team USA, the USA Triathlon National Team Program and the USA Paratriathlon National Team.
Additionally, GU will offer to provide products for on-course support for all 10 USA Triathlon Regional Championships.
All USA Triathlon certified coaches are eligible for a 40% discount on GU products purchased online at GUenergy.com. USA Triathlon annual members will receive a 20% discount on all online purchases.
"We are thrilled to join forces with a long-time industry leader such as GU Energy Labs and their tremendous product line of energy gels and chews," said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO.
"This new alliance allows USA Triathlon to further increase the overall value we deliver to members, whether you’re taking advantage of our online discount or receiving free product at USA Triathlon National Championship events."
"Triathletes are not just our core users," said GU Energy Labs President Brian Vaughan. "They also tend to be the most educated athletes in terms of nutrition and are early adopters for advanced nutrition.
“We are really honoured and excited to have this opportunity to develop a closer relationship with USA Triathlon and our fan base in tri."
