Leading sports apparel and compression specialist, 2XU, has been appointed Official Compression Partner of the Ironman Foundation Newton Running Ambassador Triathlon Team (IMF/NRTT). As the Official Compression Partner, 2XU will extend its involvement in community level activities through the IMF/NRTT.
Thanks to the 2XU sponsorship, all IMF/NRTT members will be geared up in 2XU’s compression and performance accessories for training, race-day and recovery.
In February this year, The Ironman Foundation, in partnership with Newton Running, the official US footwear and run course sponsor of Ironman, launched The Ironman Foundation-Newton Running Ambassador Triathlon Team. The new team consists of 40 athletes to compete this year in Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events across North America.
Each year, The Ironman Foundation, the non-profit organisation associated with Ironman brand owner the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), reaches out to various charitable organizations; and, since its inception, has provided over US$20 million in grants and donations to deserving global, national and local groups.
The Ironman Foundation offers its participants a life-changing opportunity: to take on the challenge of transforming the sport of triathlon from an individual endeavour to one that benefits others, all the while joined by a team of like-minded individuals. Such philanthropic spirit will be evident as the Ironman Foundation Newton Running Ambassador Triathlon Team raises money while simultaneously training for and participating in various Ironman events.
“The team’s driving mantra is ‘Kokua’ a Hawaiian word that translates to ‘extending loving, sacrificial help to others for their benefit, not for personal gain,’ and we want to take the sport of triathlon in this direction,” said Dave Deschenes, Director of the Ironman Foundation.
“Team members will provide service through sport and commitment to the community by participating in a community service project in each Ironman race community.”
“2XU is proud to help each athlete embrace this concept,” said Fred Hernandez, Director of Marketing for 2XU North America. “We are continually committed to partnering with organizations that help build a community of ambassadors who strive to multiply human performance by using sport to give back in a greater way.”
“We are all looking forward to a great season supporting these admirable athletes.”
2XU’s partnership with the Ironman Foundation Newton Running Triathlon Team will run throughout the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The inaugural Ironman Foundation Newton Running Ambassador Tri Team event kicked off at the Ironman Lake Placid triathlon in Lake Placid, New York on 28 July 2013.
From there, the IMF/NRTT has had or will have a presence at the following events: Ironman Mont Tremblant, Ironman Canada, the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, Ironman Lake Tahoe, the Ironman World Championship and Ironman Arizona.
