Entering its second partnership year, Bonk Breaker – the official energy bar of Ironman in the US – helped to fuel athletes with more than 250,000 energy bars at US Ironman events in 2012.
Following the deployment of Bonk Breaker Nutrition Bars at 35 Ironman branded events in the US last year, the company is excited for the 2013 US Ironman Triathlon Series to get underway.
When the competitors at the season opening Accenture Ironman 70.3 California in Oceanside, Califonia, arrive at the on-course aid stations during the bike and run portions on 30 March 2013, they will be able to access the official bar now available in four flavours of Bonk Bites, a new product offering spawned during the successful inaugural year of the partnership between Bonk Breaker and Ironman.
“Our first year partnering with Ironman was an extraordinary success on so many levels,” said Bonk Breaker Chairman and co-CEO Chris Frank. “Bonk Breaker strives to create the ‘World’s Best Nutrition Bars’, and we knew there could be no more rigorous proving ground than that found in a world championship event like the Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI.”
Frank added, “The incredible feedback and support we received throughout the entire Ironman season from athletes, other event sponsors, and of course from the terrific Ironman team has been overwhelmingly positive. (Founder & co-CEO) Jason (Winn) and I are eager and enthusiastic about building on that success throughout 2013 and beyond.”
“Seeing the energy bar that started out in an apartment kitchen 6 years ago become the fuel of choice for one of the world’s most intense sporting events is beyond words,” said Bonk Breaker co-CEO Jason Winn, who created Bonk Breaker while training for his first Ironman in 2006.
“We’ve received hundreds of notes from competitors around the world who have told us how much they look forward to fuelling with Bonk Breakers during competition and training.”
As the official energy bar for all US Ironman, Ironman 70.3 and 5150 Triathlon Series events, freshly baked, gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free Bonk Breaker helped to fuel Ironman competitors with over 250,000 energy bars from every on-course aid station (bike and run) last year.
The platform enabled the Santa Monica, California, based company to receive vital feedback and conduct in-competition research, which aided product refinement and development, and inspired the creation of new Bonk Breaker products such as Bonk Bites.
“One of the greatest results of the 2012 season is how much we’ve seen Bonk Breaker gain in popularity beyond athletic competition,” added Frank. “More and more people around the world are looking for convenient snacks and meal replacement products that combine great flavours with simple, real food nutrition, and they’re turning to Bonk Breaker products.”
The official bar of the US Ironman Triathlon Series, Bonk Breaker was selected as the Best Energy Bar by Road Bike Action magazine two years running and the ‘Best of Competitor’ magazine for the 5th time in 2013. Owned and operated by Jason Winn and Chris Frank, who are elite-level athletes in their own right, Bonk Breaker’s mission is to create the ‘World’s Best Nutrition Bars’, a quest that began in 2006 when Jason and his mother baked the first peanut butter & jelly bar in an apartment kitchen.
By combining appealing flavours from the finest all-natural ingredients that are gluten free, dairy free, and soy free, the company offers a freshly-baked line-up that has grown from 4 products to 14 in the past 3 years. Bonk Breaker is available in 8 energy bar flavours, 2 high protein bars, and 4 flavours of Bonk Bites.
Top professional, Olympic and elite teams and athletes around the world are fuelled by Bonk Breaker. ‘Team Bonk Breaker’ athletes took home 5 Olympic medals from the 2012 London Games, including a pair by 6-time world champion track cyclist Sarah Hammer. The company also sponsors Pro Bowl receiver Wes Welker, professional triathletes Mirinda ‘Rinny’ Carfrae, Angela Naeth, and Heather & Trevor Wurtele as well as the Kenda 5-hour Energy Pro Cycling team and Hincapie Sportswear Development Team.
