The organisers of Challenge Rimini in Italy have announced a rescheduling of the 2014 race to 10 May due to the European elections which have been confirmed for 25 May 2014.
The rescheduling was made out of respect to the Rimini community to ensure they have full access to the polling stations during these important elections and also to ensure safe passage of both athletes and the general public.
Challenge Rimini Race Director, Alessandro Alessandri acknowledged this change will affect more than 450 athletes already registered, as well as those planning to race.
“We are aware that this change of the date will cause some inconvenience for all athletes who are already registered for the race as well as for those ones who already planned having the race at the end of May in Rimini,” he said.
“It was necessary to make this difficult decision in order to guarantee the high standard of triathlon expected from SGR Rimini. Together with the local authorities we have discussed all possible alternatives before coming to the decision to reschedule the date to the 10-11 May 2014 guaranteeing the best conditions for all athletes with Rimini at its best.
“On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience to all already enrolled athletes and want to ensure that all the staff will be more than happy to guarantee a best quality event.”
Following the date change, the Challenge Rimini team has decided to run the main Challenge Rimini event on Saturday 10 May, followed by a Saturday night celebration in true Italian style followed by a sprint race and youth event on the Sunday 11 May.
For athletes already registered and who can´t take part on the new date, Challenge Rimini will provide either a refund or will transfer the 2014 entry to 2015.
