Human Race, ‘the UK’s largest and most diverse mass-participation sports events company’, has announced a partnership with the country of Switzerland as its official training destination. This is the first time the events company has engaged in such a partnership, and is understood to be the first time that such a deal with an events firm has been reached with an entire country!
Human Race believes Switzerland has so much to offer its participants, from high class training to beautiful scenery.
triathlonbusiness.com was fortunate to visit Switzerland last week as the deal was announced; and we’ll be bring further details in the coming days…
Human Race notes that Switzerland offers incredible training facilities for sports enthusiasts – such as open water swimming, running, triathlon and cycling and that this makes the country a fantastic destination to train for Human Race events. It is also really easy to get to, with Switzerland being just over an hour’s flight from many UK airports.
The transport system in the country is excellent and local transport providers are happy to welcome passengers who may be carrying bicycles, training gear etc.
Four main Swiss regions: Graubünden, Valais, Bern – Bernese Oberland and Lucerne will showcase what type of active holiday they offer to the Human Race community.
Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee have trained in Switzerland for the past four summers and have cited the quality training at altitude as a factor in helping them both to achieve Olympic triathlon success in 2012. Alistair said “It’s an amazing place to train and we’ve had a great experience each time we’ve been.”
Jonny added “Both of us have responded really well to training at altitude and spending a month in St Moritz each summer has been brilliant.”
Double Olympic Champion Victoria Pendleton is another success story who benefitted from training in Switzerland. Victoria lived and trained in Aigle from 2002-2003 and has been an enthusiast for what the country can offer ever since.
She said “I thoroughly enjoyed my time living and training in Switzerland and have enjoyed returning to the country for training and also ski holidays more recently.
“Switzerland offers the best in road riding and is also fantastic for training at altitude. The scenery is spectacular and it is only a short flight from the UK so it makes it an ideal destination for an active break.”
