Ironman is back in Japan and entries for the inaugural Ironman Japan, Hokkaido on 31 August 2013 are now open. 2010 was the last time Ironman was in Japan and entries to that race sold out months in advance.
The organisers have already confirmed that the Ironman Japan 2013 event reached 50% capacity in first two and a half hours of being open for business.
With the excitement surrounding the reintroduction of Ironman to the popular endurance nation of Japan, coupled with the constant boom of Asian triathlon growth over the past three years, the organisers anticipate a popular response and a swift sell-out.
The new race has all the hallmarks of becoming a classic destination on the Ironman Asia-Pacific calendar. Ironman Japan will be the first qualifier for the 2014 Ironman World Championships, scheduled for 11 October 2014, in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
1,700 places are available in this ‘re-inaugural year’ and there are 50 age group qualifying slots for Kona up for grabs.
