Now in its third edition, the Sailfish Half Triathlon Berga will take place on 15 September 2013 in Berga, Spain. This year, the event has again received renewed support from German wetsuit brand Sailfish, which is ‘increasing its position in the Spanish market as a reference brand.’
For many athletes in Spain and across Europe, Berga is the triathlon event that concludes a season of training. While for others, it is also positioned as a unique opportunity to prepare for a long-distance triathlon. As noted by the organisers, ‘the race has succeeded in positioning itself as the best triathlon in Spain for mid to long distance athletes.’ It expects to include the participation of international Sailfish athletes Saleta Castro, Helle Frederiksen, and last year’s winner Cesc Godoy.
In 2013, event organiser DualGrups is introducing a few changes. Regulars of Berga will be surprised to compete in a different circuit: the bike and run legs have been redesigned and will give an equal opportunity to returning and new participants. To make for the growing popularity of the event, registration slots have also been increased to 800.
Berga, located about 110km (1h 10 mins) north of Barcelona is the capital of the Berguedà county. It lies at the foothills of the Pyrenees and links the surrounding mountains (Serra de Queralt – 1,292m) and the plains below.
Besides being a popular destination for triathlon events and outdoor activities (hiking, mountain biking, climbing), Berga is also famous for its historical and cultural heritage, especially for its week-long traditional Festival of ‘La Patum’, recognized as a Humanity Heritage by UNESCO in 2005.
