The much-anticipated broadcast of the 2014 IRONMAN World Championship presented by GoPro will air on NBC on Saturday 15 November 2014 at 13:30 ET.
The IRONMAN World Championship coverage on NBC has received 16 Emmy Awards over the years and showcases all the action from Kona. The 90-minute NBC show will provide viewers an all-access experience as cameras captured the action from the air, across the barren lava fields and under the water of Kailua Bay during the 140.6-mile challenge that took place on 14 October 2014 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
This October, over 2,000 athletes took on the 140.6-mile challenge. Captured with more than 20 cameras by IRONMAN’s Emmy-award winning production crew, the 2014 show features one of the most exciting professional races in IRONMAN history.
The show highlights the arrival of a new wave of men’s IRONMAN favourites, including first-time winner Sebastian Kienle, while Mirinda Carfrae defended her title and become one of a small club of multiple-time champions.
Begun in 1978 as an endurance challenge combining the 2.4-mile Waikiki Roughwater Swim, the Around Oahu Bike Race (112 miles) and the 26.2-mile Honolulu Marathon, the GoPro IRONMAN World Championship has become renowned as ‘the world’s most challenging one-day sporting event.’
Now in its 36th year and set in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i, the IRONMAN World Championship showcases the dedication and courage of the athletes who demonstrate the IRONMAN mantra: ‘Anything is Possible’.
