The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford – billed as ‘the UK’s flattest, fastest and friendliest Marathon’ – recently scooped up two wins at two industry award evenings. The event won ‘Most improved Race’ at the Runner’s World Personal Best Awards and then claimed ‘Best Marathon’ at The Running Awards
The organising team note how fast the race is developing by bringing home these prestigious titles.
Simon Hill, ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon Race Director, was in London to receive the awards and said “Two awards in two days is immense and shows the ever-increasing popularity of this growing race. We would like to thank everyone involved, and especially our runners, for voting us number one Marathon and Most Improved race.
“We cannot do this without the support of everyone involved including all runners, marshals, volunteers, sponsors, council, charities and the race team. We are very proud and honoured to be bringing these titles home to Manchester and to show the rest of the world what a great race the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon is.”
The Marathon has been going from strength to strength with ASICS coming on board as headline sponsor for the 2014 race and the numbers of runners taking part growing. The event is pushing to become the number two marathon in the UK – after the iconic London Marathon.
Cathy McGinnis, ASICS Marketing Manager UK & Ireland commented “The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon winning two awards shows the support of this race by the runners and what a great marathon it is. We strongly support this race and are on board for the future to grow, develop and work closely to enhance the experience further with ASICS support to celebrate passion, determination and dedication of marathoners.”
Trafford Council Corporate Director Wendy Marston added, “Trafford is proud to host the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon within the Borough. To see it secure two such prestigious awards is hugely rewarding and I would like to offer the Council’s congratulations. This marathon’s success is thanks to everyone involved; it is this continued support which I am sure will see the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon becoming even more popular and successful over the coming years.”
