Triathlon Ireland has announced the Olympic distance triathlon at Lough Cutra Castle, at Gort, County Galway, as a Vodafone National Series Race for the second year running. This is seen as a huge vote of confidence in the event, which takes place on Sunday 24 May 2015.
The event attracted over 1,100 competitors this year and organiser, The Castle Triathlon Series, confidently expects to exceed those numbers in 2015.
Lough Cutra Castle is positioned as ‘a genuine festival of triathlon offering eight different race distances for both adults and children.’
“This is a wonderful boost for Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon,” said a delighted Race Director, Brian Adcock, “It’s a fantastic location for triathlon with excellent courses for both children and adults. It’s a real coup that Triathlon Ireland has given us this opportunity again.”
Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon is gaining in popularity every year and is attracting a growing number of competitors from overseas. One of these for 2015 is professional triathlete and endurance coach, Darren Jenkins, who will be competing in The Gauntlet half iron distance at Lough Cutra Castle and at each of the other Castle Triathlon Series events. Darren will also take part in the Bastion full iron distance at Hever Castle.
Already, registration numbers have doubled compared to this time last year, with 30% of those for the popular Gauntlet half iron distance. The scenic 90K Gauntlet cycle route takes in the spectacular lunar landscape of The Burren, a real selling point, especially for overseas visitors.
“Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon really deserves its National Series listing,” said Edel Conroy of event sponsors Amphibian King, “It’s an excellent event which we are delighted to support, and we look forward to 2015.”
Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon is currently offering a sizeable 30% automatic discount on entry prices to Irish triathletes, until 5 January 2015. The discount applies to all races at Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon including the half iron distance Gauntlet, Olympic, Sprint Plus, Sprint and three children’s races for 8-15 year olds. This year the event will also introduce a brand new starter tri for absolute beginners.
