Eyewear specialist Optic Nerve has welcomed XTERRA trail runner Roberto Mandje to Team Nerve. Optic Nerve discovered the athlete in Henderson, Nevada, during the XTERRA West Championship where Mandje won the XTERRA Lake Las Vegas 12.5-mile trail run with a time of 1:16:13—a course record.
As impressed as Optic Nerve was with Mandje’s performance at the XTERRA West Championship trail run, it wasn’t until hearing his entire story that the independent eyewear brand knew that Mandje would bring a unique feel to Team Nerve.
Mandje was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1982. Prior to moving to the US in 1994, he travelled and lived all over Europe and Africa with his family. While he continues to travel the world for various races, Mandje selected Boulder, Colorado, as the place to call home.
A couple of Mandje’s notable athletic achievements include placing fifth at last year’s XTERRA Trail Run World Championship in Oahu, Hawaii, and competing in the men’s 1500m run at the 2004 Olympic Games for Equatorial Guinea.
Mandje’s cultured upbringing is evident in the fact that he speaks four languages—Italian, Spanish, French and English. When he’s not competing or traveling, he enjoys surfing, playing guitar, computer programming and cheering on his favourite team, FC Barçelona!
Independently owned and firmly rooted in Colorado for over three decades, Optic Nerve is committed to supporting communities worldwide through making performance-driven, price-conscious sunglasses and goggles. Backed by a lifetime guarantee, all styles have 100% UVA and UVB protection; and offer up lightweight, durable construction, and fashion-conscious styling.
