ACTIVE Network has this week announced its acquisition of IPICO Sports, a leading global timing company. As part of its agreement with IPICO, ACTIVE plans to integrate IPICO’s solutions into its existing event lifecycle management portfolio.
A release from ACTIVE notes that ‘the integration of IPICO will expand on ACTIVE’s real-time, on-site capabilities and provide a comprehensive solution that includes timing, data, analytics, and insights that are needed by timing managers and event organizers to make business decisions, increase participation, and drive growth of their events.’
“Our strategy is clear – ACTIVE is expanding our offerings throughout the event lifecycle to give our customers access to technology and data at every step of their event. At the same time, ACTIVE is transforming into a data insights company that offers unparalleled business intelligence to our customers,” said Darko Dejanovic, CEO of ACTIVE Network.
He continued, “Acquiring IPICO enables ACTIVE to offer a fully integrated, comprehensive solution, and allows our customers to have unprecedented access to data and to process transactions and payments throughout the event lifecycle.”
ACTIVE has a long and established history of processing transactions and facilitating payments for events and activities through its leading SaaS technology. ACTIVE processed nearly US$3 billion of participant transactions on behalf of its customers in 2014. Acquiring IPICO and continuing to invest in on-site technologies allows ‘ACTIVE to support its customers before, during and after the event experience.’
ACTIVE’s plan includes offering timers and event organizers leading timing technology as well as building functionality to safely and securely accept payments at their events, without the hassle of collecting cash or managing multiple payment systems.
In utilizing recent developments in ‘wearable technology,’ ACTIVE also plans to expand the uses of the chip beyond timing, to eventually include cashless payment, access control and spectator engagement.
IPICO is a leading, global provider of race timing technology and in 2014 supported over 9,000 events, collecting approximately 13 million individual results in over 50 countries. IPICO’s dual frequency timing system is ‘well known for its industry leading accuracy and is used by some of the world’s largest and most iconic events including the Virgin Money London Marathon and the Tokyo Marathon.’
“IPICO Sports looks forward to integrating with ACTIVE Network,” said Gordon Westwater, CEO of IPICO. “ACTIVE Network is the global leader in transactions and data solutions, and IPICO Sports is pleased to become an integral piece of the ACTIVE portfolio. Together, we will make it easier for race organizers and timers to grow their events and process payments, as well as get real-time data and information.”
