The product development team at Endura has been ‘busier than a whisky bar on Hogmanay’, working hard to present another range at this year’s Eurobike. The Scottish brand’s extensive offer of cycle clothing, helmets, luggage and accessories aims to offer up the right kit for every rider, whether male or female, child or grown-up, leisure cyclist, ambitious amateur or pro, for road, MTB, and urban cycling.
Endura continue to push innovation through relentless R&D, working closely with its sponsored athletes to develop and produce the best possible kit. With the Movistar Team appearing on podiums around the world, Alex Dowsett contesting the Hour Record, Mark Beaumont setting a new world record on his Africa Solo expedition, a selection of long-distance triathletes looking for a ticket to Kona, the Endura Bergamont Factory Team putting their stamp on the Enduro scene and the legendary Danny MacAskill stunning audiences round the world with unimaginable riding skills… the calibre of rider clad in Endura kit is among the best in the world.
The cutting edge fabric and garment technologies developed as a result of these two way relationships with world class athletes is quickly brought into the regular Endura collection where it is made available to all cyclists.
Endura is offering a sneak peek at some of the results of all the hard development work and intensive testing:
To develop Endura’s road cycling offer the pro team’s feedback and real world rider testing is combined with high tech, scientific lab sessions to gain significant improvements in aerodynamics, temperature regulation and comfort in all conditions. Endura has worked closely with aero expert Simon Smart of Drag2Zero at the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 wind tunnel in the development and testing of Movistar Team’s skinsuits.
The company has also spent hours in the climate chamber of the University of Kent for hot weather race kit testing. All this research and technology then makes its way into the FS260-Pro SL collection.
FS260-Pro SL – ‘Designed by Science’
For 2016, a range has been built around the FS260-Pro SL Bibshorts, which have been developed in conjunction with bike fit experts gebioMized and are available in 3 pad widths.
The new FS260-Pro SL II Jersey delivers advanced road performance and ties in with the FS260-Pro SL Bibshorts for a ‘strong, distinguished pro look’. The jersey is made from a fast wicking fabric with coldblack technology to reduce heat build-up. It is cut in a non-flap race fit with close fit Lycra sleeves. These are finished with neat raw edge cuffs with direct silicone applications on the inside for grip and reflective details on the outside for increased visibility.
Mesh inserts on the back and the full length front zip with zip guard at collar and hem allow for maximum ventilation. The pocket system not only includes the traditional 3 elastic back pockets but adds a practical gel/gel wrapper pocket and a large central zipped security pocket.
The lightweight, fully seam sealed FS260-Pro SL Shell Jacket offers protection from the elements and breathability in an athletic race fit, with stretch panels providing freedom of movement. The 3 layer Exoshell40 fabric is waterproof to a water column of 15,000mm, has an impressive breathability rating of 40,000g/m2/24hrs and is bluesign approved, eliminating harmful substances throughout the manufacturing process.
The jacket is more durable than a race cape but still packs down small enough to easily fit into a jersey pocket and is equipped with a hidden loop for quick and easy packing. It has an external pocket on one side, while on the other side there’s access into the jersey pocket underneath which is covered by a rip-apart zip for one-handed handling. The subtly styled FS260-Pro SL Shell features reflective twin stripes on the sleeves for added visibility.
After the huge success of its male version, Endura now introduces the women’s FS260-Pro SL Bibshorts DS to get ambitious female riders into perfectly fitting bibshorts. Made from Italian Power Lycra with coldblack technology, they come in a precurved race fit with women-specific high wicking mesh bib and are finished with a slick, comfortable raw edge hem with super fine silicone grippers.
They feature Endura’s unique, discrete and functional drop-seat (DS) zipped construction for quick and easy comfort breaks without having to fumble about with the bib straps. Most importantly, the Pro SLs are available in three pad widths to help fit different body shapes. The women’s 700 series pad has been developed with gebioMized and with lots of input from Endura’s female pro riders including Para-Olympian track cyclist Denise Schindler and long-course professional triathletes Jodie Swallow (who says they are the “best design ever”) and Beth Gerdes who freely admits: “Those bibs are my obsession.”
Outlook is aero
Endura is currently working on an aero collection that will sit at the very top of itsr road offer. The products will be optimised for their specific purpose taking into account relevant speeds and bike positions. This new range will ‘utilise patented aero technology verified by scientific test results and real world race testing.’
Also to come is a triathlon range of race kit, currently being developed and taking into account the feedback of world class long distance triathletes Jodie Swallow, Rachel Joyce, Beth Gerdes, Tim Don, Iván Raña, Luke McKenzie, James Cunnama, Nils Frommhold and Joe Skipper.
More on this will be revealed at Eurobike.
