Amer Sports has strengthened its digital engagement capabilities through the acquisition of Sports Tracker, a digital sports application and online service. ‘Sports Tracker will be an integral part of Amer Sports Digital Ecosystem, which consists of connected devices, smart sensors, [the] Preva network, services such as Movescount, and brand websites and e-commerce.’
The acquisition will allow Amer Sports to strengthen its digital platform with the primary objective to further drive connected devices sales and e-commerce. Sports Tracker has a strong technology platform and capability, and is a recognized digital service that is used globally.
Amer Sports, which owns brands such as Mavic and Suunto, is the latest major sporting goods business to acquire a digital services company. Through a series of recent acquisitions, the Under Armour Connected Fitness platform now powers ‘the world’s largest digital health and fitness community’ via a suite of applications: UA Record, MapMyFitness, Endomondo and MyFitnessPal.
The Amer Sports-Sports Tracker agreement is subject to the customary closing conditions. The closing of the acquisition is expected by the end of June 2015. According to Amer Sports, the acquisition has no material impact on Amer Sports 2015 business results.
