The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, which took place this year on 19 April, has seen registration numbers increase year-on-year and the event was once again voted ‘Best Marathon’ at the 2015 Running Awards in association with everydayhero, billed as ‘the only independent annual awards ceremony celebrating the best of running and its culture as voted by runners.’
Race entries for the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, the ‘UK’s flattest, fastest and friendliest marathon’, have built-up over the years. In 2015, the event saw registration numbers rise by 31%, building on +30% growth in 2014.
In addition, the race has been buoyed up by a news item in the Manchester Evening News (MEN), a long established regional newspaper (first published in 1868) for the Manchester area of the UK. In an item covering the Best Marathon award win for the second year in a row, the paper goes on to cite: ‘Five reasons why the Greater Manchester Marathon is the best in the country’.
Race Director Simon Hill and his team were at the awards ceremony at London’s O2 in late April to receive their trophy. Hill said “We are over the moon to win the Best Marathon category for the second year in a row, and we would like to thank each and every one who has voted for us. A big thank you also goes to everyone who has been supporting us and who contributed to the success of the 2015 race.”
He added, “Registration for the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon 2016 is now open, so make sure you sign up and experience the UK’s Best Marathon next spring!”
The pre-date early bird entry fee for next year’s race is £43 for affiliated runners and £45 for non-affiliated runners – which includes a medal, ASICS technical finishers t-shirt and a goody bag.
The organisers have confirmed that the race will take place in April 2016; the exact date will be confirmed in June.
The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon is billed as the UK’s flattest, fastest and friendliest marathon renowned for its crowd support and entertainment around the course. A British-only prize fund and three time bonuses attract a top quality British field to race in Greater Manchester each year, and it is also a major charity fundraising event.
