Scottish apparel specialist Endura has confirmed its sponsorship of leading British time trialist Matt Bottrill in conjunction with his existing sponsor Drag2Zero, the renowned aerodynamic experts.
Bottrill has worked extensively with Simon Smart at Drag2Zero’s facility at the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 wind tunnel to maximise his aerodynamic efficiency and has been part of the research and development programme for Endura’s advanced speedsuits, which has resulted in a growing number of victories, including stage wins in Grand Tours, National Championships and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Jim McFarlane, Managing Director at Endura said “We are delighted to galvanise our involvement with Matt; he has been an icon of the time trial scene for many years and he is also an excellent athlete to work with as we continue aero development work through Endura’s Freespeed Project in partnership with Smart Aero Technology. 2014 will be hard to beat but we are optimistic that we will be able to put Matt in even faster suits in 2015.”
38 year old Bottrill, who has been a stalwart on the British time scene for many years, had a strong year in 2014, winning National Championships at 10, 25 and 50 miles as well as the National Time Trial Series and RTTC Circuit Championships and broke three competition records.
To cap his annus mirabilis, Matt was awarded the prestigious FT Bidlake Memorial Prize, one of the oldest awards in British Cycle Sport, for his outstanding performance over the course of the year.
The fulltime postman and father of three children kicked off his 2015 season with a victory and a new course record of 41 minutes and 52 seconds at the Kettering CC hilly 20-mile time trial in Northamptonshire on Sunday 1 March. Just one week later, on Sunday 8 March, Matthew Bottrill won the BDCA 2UP 30KM TT together with team partner Daniel Barnett in a time of 41:25.
Bottrill continued his winning series on Saturday 14 March with a win and course record at the A5 Rangers 31 mile hilly time trial in Litchborough near Towcester, Northhants, where he mastered an undulating and very technical course in 1:07:24.
