New sponsor for Wales’ biggest mass participation cycling event – Velothon Wales 2016

Velothon Wales - June 14th 2015

Entries for Wales’ biggest cycling event, Velothon Wales 2016, have now gone on sale, as a new sponsor joins the record-breaking sportive.

Riders have been urged to act quickly to secure their place after more than 10,000 spaces have already been sold during a priority window for British Cycling members and those who pre-registered their interest in the second edition of the 140K event, taking place next year on Sunday 22 May 2016.

Registrations are expected to quickly exceed the 12,000 riders who signed-up for the first Velothon Wales, which took place in June this year. Up to 18,000 places are available for Velothon Wales 2016, confirming its place as ‘the UK’s second biggest sportive and Wales’ biggest mass participation cycling event.’

Velothon Wales has also been boosted by the announcement of leading consumer electronics company Plantronics as an official partner of next year’s event. Plantronics is looking to develop awareness with consumers who are serious about fitness and exercise and is looking for ways to enhance its exposure to the cycling community.

The audio brand has a long history developing communication devices and can offer the same level of performance to consumers.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive of event delivery organisation Run 4 Wales, said “We have been delighted with the response from the cycling community following entries going on sale to British Cycling members and those who pre-registered their interest in the 2016 event.

“But we are not surprised by the uptake in entries because Velothon Wales 2015 was such a successful event and has quickly become one of the must-do sportives for cycling enthusiasts from all over the UK and even further afield.

“Run 4 Wales are looking forward to delivering a bigger and better Velothon Wales in 2016 in partnership and with the full support of Welsh Government, British and Welsh Cycling and the five local authorities involved along the 140km route.”

Stuart Bradshaw, Plantronics’ Head of Consumer Marketing & Business Development, Europe & Africa, added “Plantronics are delighted to be the exclusive headphone sponsor for Velothon Wales 2016. This provides a great opportunity to raise our brand awareness as a company that provide personal entertainment & communication products to help athletes and those who want to just keep fit with their training regime.”
