The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) has formed a global Aquatics Committee to ‘work on a continuous basis and as the industry representative body’ towards governing bodies such as FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation), ITU (International Triathlon Union) and other international sport federations.
The WFSGI Aquatics Committee will also liaise with organizers of major sport events, international standards institutions and NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) such as WHO (World Health Organization) and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to foster the general development of aquatic sports.
Robbert de Kock, WFSGI Secretary General, welcomed the new active group and said, “The Aquatics Committee represents leading brands and will help develop aquatic safety, activity and sports globally.”
For several years many leading brands of the swimwear industry have been united under the umbrella of WFSGI to ‘discuss industry related issues around swimming, but up to date this has been happening on an ad hoc basis only.’
James Hickman, Global Sports Marketing Manager at Speedo has been appointed Chair of the new Committee. Vice-Chairs are Franck Horter, General Manager for EMEA at TYR and Greg Steyger, Global Category Manager at Arena.
WFSGI and the Aquatic Committee ‘invite other aquatic brands to join the WFSGI working group and to build a solid future for the sports, the industry and their stakeholders.’
