SCOTT Sports is following the reigning IRONMAN World Champ Sebastian Kienle and eight other SCOTT sponsored pro triathletes in their final preparation for the iconic event that is Kona.
‘Moments of Kona’ is SCOTT’s perspective on its sponsored athletes’ journeys to the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. The new marketing promo will tell stories about the specific preparation that professional triathletes go through in the weeks leading to the event.
SCOTT notes that these final weeks before the toughest race of the year are crucial to success….
‘They are marked by confidence, doubts and the peculiarities of this unique place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Together with the well-known triathlon photographer Michael Rauschendorfer, we’re capturing these Moments of Kona and are sharing them now with the triathlon community on and off the island.’
SCOTT is also eager to learn what #momentsofkona triathletes that visit Kona for the IM World Championships experience during their stay and what triathletes off the island link with Kona while following the action remotely.
With this in mind, SCOTT has created a Moments of Kona sweepstake. Fans around the world can post photos on Instagram and tag them with #momentsofkona. The winner will be selected by the nine SCOTT Pro athletes on the Sunday after the race. He or she will win the 2014 World Champion bike – a Plasma 5 equipped with a SRAM 1x group set and ZIPP 808 wheels.
SCOTT is looking forward to an epic race where the nine SCOTT pro triathletes will battle for the win. Three athletes that are racing this year finished in the top five last time around. Sebastian Kienle won the race after a stellar season that included victory at the IM European Championships in Frankfurt, Germany.
SCOTT rider Jodie Swallow crossed the finish line in fourth and is again amongst the favourites in the women’s field. Cyril Viennot scored the best ever result of a French citizen in Kona, finishing in fifth place.
Aside from the three top ranked contenders from last year, the other six SCOTT pro triathletes should be kept on the radar: Angela Naeth won the IM North American Championships in Texas; Beth Gerdes won IM Zurich; and Luke McKenzie won IM Cairns this year. Jan van Berkel finished a strong 7th at the IM 70.3 World Championships recently; and Annabel Luxford proved that she’s on track for the World Championships, finishing in second place at the IM 70.3 Sunshine Coast on September 13.
