Billed as the ‘Riviera of the South China Sea’, in December, Challenge Family confirmed a new race destination in Asia with the announcement of the half distance Challenge Vietnam in the city of Nha Trang, a coastal resort city in southern Vietnam, with the event taking place on 11 September 2016.
Challenge Vietnam will run alongside Nha Trang’s six kilometre stretch of coastline with its white sandy beaches, clear waters and an abundance of marine life, thriving reefs with verdant mountain ranges at each end, as well as an archipelago of 19 untouched islands just a short boat ride away.
Challenge Family notes that the region also offers host of sightseeing and recreational activities with the town itself full of ‘breath-taking architecture dating back to the ancient Champa Kingdom, Buddhist temples as well as natural hot springs, salt fields and majestic waterfalls.’
Bady Pham of local organizing team Pulse Active said, “Challenge Vietnam is going to be an experience the participants will never forget. Attention to detail will be the main focus of Pulse Active in organizing this race. We want the athletes to feel like they own the race.”
The focus on quality was echoed by Dave Greenfield, President of Elite Bicycles, who said “I am super excited about the opportunity to bring a premiere triathlon event to Nha Trang. Due to the fact that we are combining a principal brand along with an outstanding team, assuredly the result will be the best event ever.”
Challenge Family Asia Pacific CEO, Marcus Altmann, said the global triathlon organization couldn’t have hoped for a better location for its expansion into Vietnam. “Nha Trang is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. The locals are incredibly welcoming and as with all our races, it is a destination that will be enjoyed by athletes and their friends and families alike.
“We are very much looking forward to working with the team at Pulse Active and the local community to create an iconic event on the Challenge Family calendar.”
Challenge Vietnam is the newest addition to the long list of Challenge Family races around the world. A release from Challenge Family added, ‘Just like a family, Challenge Vietnam will be following in the footsteps of its older sibling-races and will step up to the plate to deliver a memorable race experience.’
The race will begin with a 1.9K swim in the tropical waters of the beautiful beaches of Nha Trang City, followed by a 90K bike ride which takes athletes to see the sights and sounds of Nha Trang City. The race will culminate with a 21K run along Nha Trang City’s famed coastline strip where athletes will be cheered on by the spectators and welcomed into the finisher’s chute.
