Competitor Group has installed long-time media veteran John Bradley as Senior Vice President of Media, effective immediately.
Bradley will oversee the overall content strategy and business operations for all four of CGI’s media brands including VeloNews, Triathlete, Competitor and Women’s Running, along with its respective digital properties. He will also continue in his current role as Editor-in-Chief of VeloNews and begin serving on the company’s senior management committee.
“John is an experienced media professional who’s universally respected both inside our building and outside in the industry,” said Josh Furlow, President of CGI. “His career is and always has been in media and that’s his passion. He’s the perfect leader to direct the future of our media division.”
As SVP of Media, Bradley will be responsible for new media expansion, multi-platform product development, working with the editorial teams and leading sales and marketing efforts. He joined CGI last year, assuming leadership of ‘North America’s most storied cycling title’, which he rebranded to its historical name VeloNews. During his short tenure at VeloNews, Bradley has overseen a complete redesign of the magazine and retooled the brand’s content strategy, which has reportedly increased unique visitors to VeloNews.com by more than 20% year-on-year.
“There is so much passion and talent in our media division,” said Bradley. “The recent successes at VeloNews have really been down to me creating a direction and structure, then getting out of the way so that the members of our team could play to their strengths. I plan to do the same across all four of our titles as I move into this expanded role.”
Bradley has more than 25 years’ experience as an editor and journalist. Prior to CGI, he was a former Senior Editor for Outside and Wired magazines. At Wired, Bradley edited general features and oversaw the consumer-technology and product-reviews team for both the magazine and wired.com. At Outside, he ran the brand’s extensive coverage of the cycling industry while also serving as a general feature editor and writer.
Bradley holds a master of science in journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor of arts from the University of Florida. He will continue to be based out of CGI’s office in Boulder, Colorado, where he lives with his wife and son.
