The German Triathlon Union (Deutsche Triathlon Union (DTU)) and the BEST Centre, Mallorca, have today announced a five year-partnership for talent development and training camps in the sport of triathlon.
Starting in 2016, DTU will increase its engagement in Colonia St Jordi, where the BEST Centre is located in southern Mallorca, Spain. It will not just be the German national squad training in the south east of Mallorca, but the two partners will aim to build triathlon offers and activities for ‘elite, age group and rookie athletes.’
These offers will be based at one of the best training environments in the world across the three disciplines: with a heated outdoor Olympic pool, a 400m track and soft running trial and some of the best cycling terrain in Europe.
Prof Dr Martin Engelhardt, President of DTU, explained, “We are happy about the partnership with the BEST Centre, as we are convinced that the facilities are perfect for triathlon. Our national squad has been training here regularly for five years now, so we know about all the benefits of this place.
“Our aim is to open this centre also to our members and all German professional and mass sports athletes. Therefore we will work out – together with the BEST Centre – special offers for them.”
James Parrack, co-founder of the BEST Centre added “We are very proud, that the DTU has chosen us as their offshore training partner. We strive to provide the very best triathlon training environment for beginners to elites and when they come here, the DTU members and all other [athletes] will have the perfect place to train and relax.”
