Leanda Cave launches all-women TEAM LC, and the Leanda Cave Foundation

Spearheaded by four time triathlon world champion Leanda Cave, and in partnership with Tempo Sports Marketing, TEAM LC was launched today as a women’s ambassadorship program for both elite as well as amateur age group triathletes.

A release from the new initiative notes, ‘The key to the success of TEAM LC will be rooted in our athletes. Female triathletes from all walks of life will make up the team and each will contribute in their own special way. We will be looking for our ambassadors to make the sport better place now and for future generations of female triathletes.’

16 triathletes will be chosen in 2016 to compete in four regions throughout the United States in over 40 events. Team LC will provide ambassadors with financial means, product endorsements, mentoring, coaching, camps and ‘a supportive community that will enable the athletes to realize their dreams.’ Funds for the team will come from various partners and the Leanda Cave Foundation.

The Leanda Cave Foundation will raise funds in three ways: sponsorship, on-line auction items (e.g. a Ventum bike, and all-inclusive vacation etc.), and through direct donation.

“I have always wanted to give back to triathlon as it is a sport that has given me so much,” said Leanda Cave. “I feel the best place for me to do this is by creating new opportunities for women of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds by empowering them through the sport of triathlon. The Leanda Cave (LC) Foundation was conceived from this idea and it is now a fully executed not-for-profit organization. “

She continued, “Unfortunately, there is a significant lack of female participation in all sports, including triathlon. Because triathlon is the sport I love and grew up, this where I know I can make the most impact with the LC Foundation and ultimately establish change.

“We will focus on the strength of community with an all-women triathlon team program that creates a comfortable environment for the growth of athletes as participants of the triathlon and being a confident individual.

“The funds raised will help develop, support and sustain the all-woman triathlon team, called Team LC. Team LC will provide financial means, product endorsements, mentoring, coaching, camps and a supportive community that will enable the athletes to realize their dreams.”

“Leanda and I have been working on the Team LC initiative for over 1 year ½,” said Lou Cantin of Tempo Sports Marketing. “To actually see it become reality is quite a joy and a thrill! We have two great leaders from the triathlon industry in Kris Swarthout and Cindi Bannink, who will be guiding our athletes to reach their individual goals; [and] a 3 year plan in place to bring our team to a worldwide platform. The goal our team is to empower women through triathlon.”

Cantin added, “A special thank you goes out to our valued partners, Kelley Kronenberg, PacificHealth Labs, Hoka One One, Santini, blueseventy, Tacx, Giro, ISM, Oakley and TufMed who believed in our Team LC initiatives.”
