Ocean Lava Aranjuez aims to make history south of Madrid

Royal Palace of Aranjuez - setting for Ocean Lava Aranjuez

Taking place close in the surroundings of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez to the south of Madrid, Ocean Lava Aranjuez is building momentum towards the race day weekend of 4-5 June 2016.

Ocean Lava Aranjuez offers a variety of racing options – from sprint to Olympic, middle distance and a full iron distance triathlon, as well as the opportunity to take part in a team relay, seen as a popular choice for many first timers.

Set in the grounds of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, participants are treated to views throughout, with the swim taking place in the Tagus river (which is known as the longest river on the Iberian Peninsula and is one of two main arteries of the Aranjuez Cultural Landscape). This is followed by cycling on the R-4 motorway (closed to traffic) and billed as one of the fastest cycling courses in Spain. The run segment is set to the backdrop of the palace and city of Aranjuez along the banks of the Tagus, its sculptured gardens, tree-lined streets (Los Sotos de Aranjuez) and rolling countryside.

The Ocean Lava Team is confident that Ocean Lava Aranjuez will not only be a highlight for the local community but will also attract lots of foreign triathletes in the coming years, as ‘Aranjuez is a privileged place for sports’. The new event is seen as an ideal setting for ‘holding a unique triathlon event and a well-known Spanish historic city with many stories to discover.’

Ocean Lava Aranjuez will also be the long distance triathlon championships race of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and it will be host the Spanish Military National Championships.
