Ocean Lava Celje-Logarska Valley has joined the increasingly expanding Ocean Lava Planet Series. Billed as the only half iron distance triathlon in Slovenia, the event joins the Ocean Lava brand in 2017; although the race has been in existence independently since 2013.

The date of Ocean Lava Celje-Logarska Valley 2017 will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Ocean Lava Celje-Logarska Valley 2017 will aim offer a range of natural surroundings to its participants. In addition to its natural environment, Logarska Valley is also accessible to cities such as Celje (east Slovenia) and Ljubljana – the European Green Capital 2016 (in central Slovenia).

In the heart of the Kamnik – Savinja Alps, in northern Slovenia, the Logar valley is seen as one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Europe. The Logar Valley landscape park has received a ‘Future in the Alps Award’ from CIPRA (the International Commission for the Protection of the Alps) for the successful management of a protected area and promoting sustainable development in the alpine region.

The swim start is in Šmartinsko lake, which is located in the direct vicinity of Celje city. Then the athletes will ride 90K with a total elevation of 850m, before finishing off with a 21K run.

Kenneth Gasque, founder of Ocean Lava Planet triathlon series, said “We have planned some small, beautiful surprises with new Ocean Lava countries and with Ocean Lava Slovenia, made by Nino Cokan, there is a Slovenian triathlete leading the way. Based on the experiences of the first year and the athletes’ opinions, there will also be improvements on the organizational side, to establish Ocean Lava Celje-Logarska Valley both nationally and internationally.”

He added “We are already sure of one thing. The cycling course through Logarska Valley is one of the most scenic courses in the Slovenian triathlon scene. Being able to finish in the valley and the surrounding area reminds us of the centuries-old harmony here with nature. In the end, the best thing in triathlon is to enjoy the race and at the same time be fuelled by the beauty of nature!”

Nino Cokan, Race organizer of Ocean Lava Celje – Logarska valley said “Slovenians are closely connected with triathlon. The sport is a part of Slovenian identity and an indispensable element of the Slovenian brand and its green colour. Slovenia radiates a special sporting energy, because its people are constantly in motion and in touch with nature.”
