Zipp in close partnership with CANYON//SRAM Racing

Zipp has confirmed it is a sponsor and technical partner of the new CANYON//SRAM Racing team. The new women’s team, comprised of top athletes including multiple world champions, will compete across the globe with a focus on the inaugural UCI Women’s WorldTour.

The 17-event race series begins in March with the Strade Bianche in Italy. One of the first major team objectives is the Ladies Tour of Qatar in February. The team also is focused on preparing its riders for the road race and individual time trial at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Zipp will collaborate with the team to gain product feedback from riders and staff while providing technical expertise. For Zipp, this approach is crucial to product development and has resulted in innovations including Firecrest and NSW.

CANYON//SRAM Racing Manager Ronny Lauke said: “We are proud to be a partner of Zipp. Zipp wheels give our athletes confidence in every terrain. They deliver the best combination of aerodynamics and weight for sprinting, climbing or time trialing.”

CANYON//SRAM Racing’s wheel arsenal:

  • 202 Tubular – mountain top finishes
  • 303 Firecrest – cobbles, Classics, all-around road racing
  • 404 Firecrest – all-around aero performance for all kinds of racing
  • 808 Firecrest – time trials, team time trials
  • 808 NSW Carbon Clincher – billed as Zipp’s most advanced wheelset ever, for time trials and team time trials
  • Super-9 Disc – time trials, team time trials

Zipp notes that its model for sponsorship extends beyond simply handing over wheels. Instead, the goal is free flowing information and ideas between Zipp/SRAM technical liaisons and the team.

CANYON//SRAM Racing’s Tiffany Cromwell is one of several team riders who last year visited the Zipp factory in Indianapolis. “It was awesome to have the opportunity to meet the people behind the products and see them really taking an interest in our feedback on the products to continue to push themselves to deliver to us the most advanced equipment,” Cromwell said.

“It’s also nice to have a personal relationship with the brands we represent through our team.”

CANYON//SRAM Racing also will ride SRAM components and use Quarq power measurement.
