Swimwear and accessories specialist Aqua Sphere UK is launching an environmentally friendly Repreve collection in shops from 1 March, which is made from a new fabric developed by the company. Aqua Sphere has combined Repreve recycled polyester yarn with PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) polyester yarn to create ‘resilient environmentally friendly swimwear’.
Aqua Sphere points out that it has the global exclusivity for Repreve recycled fabric for fitness and competitive swimwear. The company adds that the new range, ‘not only helps to save the planet but also delivers excellent chlorine resistance and UV50 sun protection.’
Aqua Sphere is committed to supporting the global environment in its ongoing product development. Repreve is a globally recognised eco-friendly fibre by UNIFI made from recycled plastic bottles that is already used by major brands worldwide to create environmentally friendly apparel and other products. Aqua Sphere has become the first active swimwear brand to combine Repreve fibre with PBT to create ‘long-lasting high performance garments with superb chlorine resistance and sun protection benefits’. According to the company, neither of these qualities will degrade over time as they are knitted into the garment.
Aqua Sphere’s Repreve garments are easily identifiable by their green lining as well as swing tags which detail how many plastic bottles have been recycled to create each garment (approximately 6 bottles in a women’s swimsuit).
Aqua Sphere’s Repreve women’s one pieces include the vibrant Aisha, available in sizes 34 – 44 in a choice of eye catching colours, with integral bra support, a high comfort open back and convenient bra strap adjustment. Gianna (sizes 32 – 38) has a stylish open back and high fashion colour inserts andr Amelia (sizes 32 – 42) includes a ‘vivid river of contrasting colour cascading down one side’.
All products are £31.99 SRP. The collection is completed with men’s Denzel jammers and a collection of boys’ and girls’ swimwear, including teen suits that are positioned as being ideal for the club swimmer.
Stacey Langlois, Marketing and Swimwear Manager for Aqua Sphere UK, said “We are proud and excited to add Repreve to our collection and are delighted to have created such an innovative eco-friendly line with hardworking credentials as well as style!
“What’s more, we have deliberately not included a price premium for Repreve products as we really want to encourage as many active swimmers as possible to embrace and support our environmental message. Since Repreve was first introduced to the world, over 4 billion recycled bottles have been used to make quality recycled products and now that includes Aqua Sphere swimwear! Look out for it in good swim shops and online.”
