Bike accessories specialist Bontrager, part of the Trek family of brands, has unveiled two new key product offerings: an overhauled version of its Velocis MIPS lightweight road bike helmet, and an expanded Aeolus road wheel line with new carbon wheelsets designed at lower price points.
Velocis upgrades include MIPS and Boa closure
Bontrager has unveiled an entirely overhauled version of its flagship lightweight road bike helmet, Velocis MIPS. The company notes that the all-new lid features major upgrades in crash protection, aerodynamic performance, and fit.
The new design is slightly deeper than the previous version, providing additional crash protection in crucial areas like the back of the head, in addition to a more natural fit. Aerodynamic performance also benefits handsomely from the helmet’s new shape, and Bontrager adds that the wind tunnel ‘confirms a wind-cheating profile’. Recessed internal channels ensure that airflow continues to provide ample cooling.
MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is another welcome addition to the new design. Developed by brain surgeons and scientists to protect the brain from the angled impacts typical of real-world falls, MIPS has taken the action sports world by storm with its effective and affordable design. Crash protection is the fundamental purpose of any helmet, and MIPS is seen as a must-have feature for those who push their limits on the bike.
Velocis MIPS also includes a highly-adjustable closure system. No two heads are exactly alike, so Bontrager zeroed in on micro-adjustability as the most important factor in providing a comfortable fit to all riders. Enter the all-new Boa helmet closure system, which allows riders to easily adjust fit with a single hand and provides a wider range of precise fits than traditional closures.
Other convenient features include 37.5 moisture-wicking fit pads, a removable NeoVisor that provides the benefits of a cycling cap without the additional bulk, and an all-new sunglass port that offers secure eyewear storage directly on top of the helmet.
Velocis MIPS will be available to consumers in late July, in both mainline and women’s models, with a variety of colourways. Dedicated fans of World Tour cycling will appreciate the Trek-Segafredo team sticker sheets included with the Red, White, and Visibility Yellow colourways.
New Bontrager Aeolus wheels have design on lower price points
Bontrager has expanded its Aeolus road wheel line with new carbon wheelsets designed to bring Aeolus performance to a wider range of riders at lower price points. With the all-new Aeolus Pro wheels, Bontrager note that it is ‘delivering the best value in carbon wheels today’ with Aeolus Pro 3 and Aeolus Pro 3 Disc. Both wheelsets feature Bontrager’s TLR system for conversion to tubeless.
Aeolus Pro 3 TLR is a full carbon, tubeless-ready rim brake wheel that balances durability, weight, and aerodynamics ‘for pro-level performance that doesn’t break the bank’. Bontrager took the proven shape of the existing 35mm-depth Aeolus 3 and added a confidence-inspiring textured carbon brake track that increases stopping power and dissipates heat while Bontrager three-pawl hubs provide consistent engagement.
Aeolus Pro 3 TLR is also available in a disc version. At US$1,200 MSRP, Aeolus Pro 3 TLR is positioned as being perfect for dedicated riders and weekend racers looking for top-level performance at a value.
Bontrager products are available online at trekbikes.com and at authorized Trek and Bontrager retailers throughout the world.
