ROKA Sports has received Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Year Award for its ultra-lightweight performance sunglasses. The Dallas-based performance multisport brand released its first eyewear line just six months ago, and the designs are being ‘heralded for breakthrough innovations that redefine the product category’. Outside Magazine saluted ROKA’s Phantom eyewear, a titanium sunglass weighing just 20g, and featuring patented technologies.
Rob Canales, Co-Founder and CEO of ROKA said, “As an independent brand taking on the Goliaths of a monopolistic market, we’re incredibly honoured to have our eyewear recognized for its unrivalled performance and comfort. ROKA is a company with the passion for performance that enables athletes to achieve their dreams, and our eyewear redefines the standard and sets a new high mark for what is possible.”
ROKA’s Phantom eyewear reportedly required more than a year of R&D with some of the world’s most advanced factories and material suppliers… ‘Packing under-the-hood technical innovations that deliver the ultimate in comfort and performance, the aviator design salutes the heritage of classic eyewear style… to prove performance optics don’t always have to take styling cues from science fiction.’
Unique to ROKA frames, ‘GEKO Pad technology utilizes biomimicry for the secure grip of gecko foot geometry’. Crafted with a proprietary elastomer and engineered with patented patterning, the pads ‘achieve a no-bounce, ultra-secure fit that maintains retention even during the sweatiest, most strenuous activity’. ROKA performance eyewear also features durability with the low weight of titanium to offer a ‘forget you’re wearing them’ experience.
Optimized with premium nylon lenses by Carl Zeiss Vision for, ROKA eyewear exceeds ANSI Z87.1 standards for optical performance and impact resistance. The lenses are enhanced with a hard coating for abrasion resistance, a hydrophobic & oleophobic coating that reduces fog build-up and resists smudging, and an anti-reflective coating that mitigates distracting reflections and glare. All these features are packed into designs offered at ‘price points that deliver unmatched performance at an exceptional value’. Although, it should be noted that ROKA’s Phantom eyewear is priced at US275.
Canales concluded, “There’s a tremendous amount of pride that goes into every product we develop, and this award validates all the hard work we put into performance gear that makes a difference for athletes striving to achieve their best.”
