An expected 2,000 cyclists will ride the Daylesford region, in Victoria, Australia, in an inaugural event supporting Breast Cancer Network Australia taking place on 28 October. The Ride Daylesford event is hosted by Sports Media and Entertainment 360 (SME360), with Friendsurance, ‘the world’s first Peer to Peer insurance provider’ confirmed as the naming rights partner for the event.
Perry Abbott, CEO of Friendsurance Australia said, “Friendsurance is all about making insurance social again. Cycling is a natural fit for us. We encourage our customers to connect with others to save on their insurance, it makes sense to ride together too!”
The Friendsurance Ride Daylesford event will see competitors complete either a 33km, 63km or 146km recreational ride course with sections through wineries, springs and rolling countryside.
Daylesford Mayor, Sebastian Klein said the locals are excited to be involved in the first-time event. “We’re proud to share some of our most stunning landscapes for the Daylesford Ride 2017. It’s great to host premier cycling in the region.”
He continued, “Starting and finishing in Daylesford, and travelling through townships such as Shepherds Flat, Hepburn, Maldon, Malmbury and Kyneton, it will be an exceptional and unique road cycling event.”
SME360 CEO Martin Jolly added that “Daylesford is the perfect place to launch a brand new event, as the Hepburn and Daylesford region offers such beautiful surroundings and many attractions for all the family.”
Jolly continued, “Known as the ‘Wellness region’ with its extensive spa & health focus and a wide variety of accommodation, it is a perfect match for a cycling event. SME 360 is excited to be working with all of our partners to build the Ride Daylesford event into a successful annual gathering of Victoria’s cycling enthusiasts and recreational riders.
“We are also putting a special emphasis on attracting women to participate in the ride, and we look forward to supporting the great work Breast Cancer Network Australia does,” he said.
Rozalee Erceg, Head of Development, Fundraising and Events at Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) said the charity is looking forward to the event. “Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) is thrilled to be the charity partner for Friendsurance Ride Daylesford. In 2017 alone, more than 17,000 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer and we see our partnership with Friendsurance Ride Daylesford as a unique opportunity for partners, family and friends along with corporate teams and cycling enthusiasts to help raise funds to support Australians affected by breast cancer.”
