As part of the final, last event celebrations for IRONMAN 70.3 UK in Exmoor, the organising team has confirmed that the event will also be staging a 5km IRONGIRL run event. Keen to encourage people of all ages and levels of fitness to be able to take part in racing over the weekend, the 5km IRONGIRL run event will take place in addition to the IRONKIDS run on Saturday 24 June. This will then be followed by the IRONMAN 70.3 UK triathlon event on Sunday 25 June.
Open to females from the age of 15, the IRONGIRL 5km fun run will take place from the event village at Wimbleball Lake, nestled in the heart of Exmoor’s National Park. The route will take runners out and back, along the water’s edge in the stunning setting, offering ‘a very flat and fast route and finishing under the iconic IRONMAN finish arch’.
The focus is very much about participation and enjoyment and will take place in the afternoon after the IRONKIDS event. From the youngest IRONKIDS competitor aged three, through to the oldest IRONMAN 70.3 UK athlete aged 74, the weekend aims to offer an opportunity for the whole family to be part of the weekend’s action.
Dan James, Race Director at IRONMAN 70.3 UK said “We are really excited about being able to offer a women only fun run event. Wimbleball Lake is such a perfect setting for friends and families to come and enjoy the venue and weekend together. With the addition of an IRONGIRL to the IRONKIDS and IRONMAN 70.3 UK we hope that we can get everyone active and taking part together.”
IRONKIDS and IRONGIRL precedes the main IRONMAN 70.3 event, which will see some 1,000 athletes tackle a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a challenging 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. Friends, family and local supporters are all encouraged to watch the athletes in action and spur them up the 52 climbs in what will be the final race of this iconic IRONMAN 70.3.
Entries for IRONGIRL cost £15, with athletes receiving a race t-shirt and medal for crossing the finish line.
