Due to the cleaning and construction works on the lake of the autonomous city of Buenos Aires, the 2017 ITU Buenos Aires World Cup in Argentina, due on 4-5 November, has been cancelled.

“Despite our best efforts to try to have the lake ready for the World Cup, the cleaning won’t be finished until the first semester of 2018, in time for the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games (YOG), but unfortunately not in time for this year’s World Cup,” said Orlando Eugenio Arauz, President of the Argentinian Triathlon Federation.

The Local Organising Committee will try to organise the event in 2018, the same year of the Youth Olympic Games, which will have both elite races as well as mixed relay events in Buenos Aires.

ITU has already communicated the cancellation to all athletes and National Federations, so they can change their race and travel plans. A release added that ‘Both ITU and the organising committee sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this causes.’
