Four time triathlon world champion, Leanda Cave, has announced her Team LC Ambassador roster for 2017, the creation of a second team platform with the LC Team ‘Mate’ program, and welcomes Heather Lendway as the first pro triathlete under the Team LC banner.
Returning Team LC ambassadors from the 2016 season include: Deanna Brandt, Gabriel Bunten, Lacey Chimienti, Linda Curtis, Sarah Emerich, Katie Kurtessis, Cristina Ramirez, Allison Reed, Katherine St-Laurent, Jennifer Schultz, Natasha Sutherlin, Natalie Williams and Sarah Wooten. And in addition, Team LC is welcoming four new ambassadors: Maurya Couvares, Margaret Frisby, Danelle Fron and Randi Milner.
Once again, Team LC saw a great deal of applicants wishing to be part of the team and its movement to ‘Empower Women Through Triathlon’. In response to this demand, the LC Team ‘Mate’ program was created, where the name is a play on words from Leanda’s background and upbringing. The LC Team ‘Mate’ program will give the opportunity for forty (40) additional women to be part of the movement, promote the team, and spread the message of empowering women.
The fee to join the LC Team ‘Mate’ program is US$250.00 and athletes will receive a Team LC Santini tri-kit, a Team LC hat or visor, one pair of Compressport socks and preferred discounts from sponsor partners. Furthermore, the proceeds will be used to fund the Leanda Cave Foundation and further supporting the movement.
Team LC has also announced the support of our first Pro Team LC triathlete in Heather Lendway. A release from Team LC adds that ‘Heather has demonstrated that she shares Team LC’s message of ‘Empowering women through triathlon’ in being a strong voice amongst her female triathlon peers and as a former assistant coach of a female swim team. With a background in swimming, Heather often leads out of the water and has been steadily climbing her way up to podium finishes.’
“Heather is a great role model for other women as a dedicated athlete and hard worker. I would love to see Heather step up to the next level,” said Leanda Cave.
“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to be the first professional triathlete representing Team LC,” added Heather Lendway. “Team LC is an organization which, I can proudly say, is working towards making a difference locally and nationally in a cause that I value highly. I’m looking forward to being a part of the team as we work to further empower women through the sport of triathlon.”
To empower women through triathlon, USA Triathlon Foundation, Leanda Cave Foundation and USA Triathlon Women’s Committee awarded US$3,500 to Team LC ambassadors. Recipients include i-tri of Long Island, New Jersey, Girls for Tri of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and elite paratriathlete Elizabeth Baker. In 2016, the Leanda Cave Foundation through Team LC with its sponsors and online auction donated over US$10,000 to Team LC Ambassadors to compete and spread their message nationwide of empowering women through triathlon.
“I started the sport of triathlon from very humble beginnings where the generosity and support of friends and family went a long way,” said Leanda Cave. “However, if it were not for the financial support and encouragement from sponsors, I would not be the athlete I am today.”
Team LC partners includ: Kelley Kronenberg, Hoka One One, Ventum, PacificHealth Labs, Santini, Kask, Koo Sunglasses, blueseventy, and Tacx.
