Momentum building for UKFast City of Salford 10k

UKFast City of Salford 10k 2017

On Sunday 3 September 2017 more than 3,500 runners descended upon MediaCityUK Salford in Manchester, UK, for the expanding UKFast City of Salford 10k – produced by Sports Tours International.

UK Race Director at Sports Tours International, Graham Jackson said “This was our most successful race yet with superb support from the people of Salford and beyond. The UKFast City of Salford 10k attracts every type of person – from elite runners to charity fun runners and local businesses too. It’s that eclectic mix that creates such a unique atmosphere and it such a special race.”

The UKFast City of Salford 10k route takes in some of Salford’s most iconic sights, including MediaCityUK itself, The Imperial War Museum, Coronation Street Studios and the Old Trafford football stadium. Supporters turned out in force around the route to cheer on the participants – many of whom were out to set a personal best, raise money for charity or simply to enjoy the atmosphere.

Altrincham & District AC’s Mohammad Aburezeq took the title as this year’s male winner, completing the 10k course in a blistering 30 minutes and 29 seconds, pipping Iraitz Arrospide from City of Sheffield & Dearne into second place in a time of 30. In the women’s race, Trafford AC’s Jacqueline Fairchild ran a superb race coming home to take the win in a time of 35 minutes and 2 seconds.

Sale Harriers Manchester took both the male and female affiliated club titles on the day, with the University of Salford taking home the title of Business Trophy Winners 2017.

Salford’s own Craig Keatley was this year’s wackiest entrant, completing the course twice wearing a pair of flippers, which formed part of his training for a coast-to-coast challenge in aid of The Christie. The Christie themselves were one of three official charities at this years event, alongside Key 103’s Cash For Kids and The Diane Modahl Sports Foundation.

Since its inception in 2008, the UKFast City of Salford 10k has grown in size – with the help of a number of local businesses and organisations such as Salford City Council. In 2017, the even’ts main sponsors include: UKFast, Salford City Council, Therapy First Physiotherapy, Jacksons Trophies and three Official Charity Partners – The Christie, Cash For Kids and The Diane Modahl Sports Foundation.
