The Ocean Lava Series of triathlon events has confirmed the addition of the Ocean Lava Galicia triathlon in the Galicia region, which is located in the ‘green and lush north western corner of Spain’. Geographically, Galicia is situated just above Portugal and faces both the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea.
The first edition of Ocean Lava Galicia, taking place on 10 September 2017, offers athletes an opportunity to race either the half or Olympic distance in Cambados city, the European Wine City 2017 and the capital of Albariño wine.
“We are pleased to welcome our newest destination Ocean Lava Galicia and this is an excellent opportunity to combine triathlon and tourism,” said Kenneth Gasque, Founder of Ocean Lava Planet. “The beautiful setting of Cambados city, the European Wine City 2017 offers a pristine backdrop to start and end the ride and is perfectly suited to host friends, family and guests who will attend to support their favourite Ocean Lava Hero.”
Cambados is considered one of the most important tourist destinations in Galicia. Spread over a wider area of the three towns of Fefiñáns, Cambados and San Tomé do Mar, the region includes ancestral homes, town squares, historic cobbled streets, a network of museums, as well as a wine route and hiking trails. Cambados city is located 25km from Pontevedra city. Positioned an hour away from Vigo city, Cambados is accessible by car, bus and train as well via Vigo Airport, Santiago de Compostela Airport and A Coruña Airport, which are all served by low-cost carriers from all over Europe.
