IRONMAN and Oakley have announced a new partnership, making Oakley the Official Helmet and Smart Eyewear sponsor of the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship, which takes place in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i, on 14 October.
As part of the partnership, Oakley will showcase the brand’s helmet and smart eyewear products and technologies against the backdrop of Kailua-Kona. The partnership will be activated through different touch points on-site at the IRONMAN World Championship event, including branding, programming and educational experiences at the Prizm O-Lab at the IRONMAN Village. Fans watching the live coverage at home will be reached through broadcast integrations and commercials.
“We are proud to be the Official Helmet and Smart Eyewear brand of the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship, a prestigious triathlon event – bringing our leading products and technologies to some of the world’s best athletes in triathlon,” said Cuan Petersen, Vice President Sports Marketing at Oakley. “Throughout the event, we will be showcasing our newest helmet innovations that push the boundaries of what is possible in triathlon.”
As the Official Helmet and Smart eyewear sponsor of the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship, Oakley will showcase the following:
- Helmets: In 2018, Oakley will launch the Oakley ARO Series – a range of premium road racing helmets specializing in seamless optics integration, aero performance and thermoregulation. The Oakley ARO Series Cycling Helmets range includes: Oakley ARO7, ‘the helmet of choice for time trials and triathlons’; Oakley ARO5, ‘tuned for speed and ready for heart-pounding sprint finishes’; and Oakley ARO3, ‘engineered for those unforgiving climbs and the blistering heat’.
- Smart eyewear: Radar Pace is a real-time voice-activated coaching system that ‘creates a unique training program, tracks performance and coaches in the moment’. Radar Pace comes equipped with Prizm Road, a lens technology that works to enhance detail and improve performance by providing an ultra-precise colour tuning designed for specific environments.
Oakley will award the all new Oakley ARO5 and Oakley ARO7 helmets to the fastest female and male cyclist in each age-group and will give a limited edition Oakley Radar Pace to the entire podium for each age-group. Additionally, during the IRONMAN World Championship athlete check-in, Oakley will randomly select 200 lucky participants to receive a Golden Ticket to win a Radar Pace.
“IRONMAN is excited to welcome Oakley as a partner this year at the IRONMAN World Championship,” said Stuart Selig, Executive Vice President of Global Partnerships, North America. “Their products provide the quality and sophistication that our athletes demand; and we are confident that their presence on-site in Kona will enhance the overall experience for both athletes and spectators.”
