Ocean Lava expands with Hardman Triathlon partnership in Ireland

The expansion of the Ocean Lava triathlon series keeps on coming with a new raft of Ocean Lava Ireland events now confirmed for 2017. The four new Ocean Lava branded races have come about following a partnership between Ocean Lava Planet and the Hardman Triathlon series in Ireland.

In Ireland, there will be four events, over four distances, between June and September 2017. All races will take place in County Kerry in the south west of Ireland. The events will take in the Ring of Kerry, the Lakes of Killarney, the Wild Atlantic Way, Killarney National Park and many more areas of natural beauty.

In 2017 Ocean Lava Ireland will be holding four races:

  • Sprint distance: 17 June 2017 – Valentia Island
  • Middle distance: 8 July 2017 – Waterville
  • Full distance: 19 August 2017 – Killarney
  • Olympic distance: 2 September 2017 – Killarney

This latest expansion for the Ocean Lava brand follows recently announced events in locations as diverse as Réunion Island in the Indian OceanParenzana encompassing both Slovenia & Croatia, as well as Portugal, and Galicia in North West Spain.

The Ocean Lava team note that triathlon has shown strong growth in Ireland over the past few years. Ireland now has one of the highest per capita participation rates in triathlon worldwide, with membership of the governing body increasing by 159% since 2009.

Kenneth Gasque, founder of the Ocean Lava Planet triathlon series said “I’m so happy that we’ve announced for our Irish triathlon friends our new Ocean Lava Ireland races, which celebrate the culture and heritage of the Irish people. On St Patrick’s Day, there are only two kinds of people in the world, the Irish and those who wish they were!”

He continued, “The growth in popularity of triathlon here is phenomenal. Triathlon has been Ireland’s fastest growing sport over the last few years and with Ocean Lava Ireland we strive to make our sport even more accessible and continue to grow and develop it with Ocean Lava Ireland. We understand that the growth of triathlon requires support right from the core and with partnerships like this between Ocean Lava and Hardman Events, we see ourselves as helping to achieve this. Nature always wears the colours of the Ocean Lava spirit and athletes will always be greeted by amazing views when roaming Ocean Lava Ireland.”

Alan Ryan of Hardman Events who holds the licence for Ocean Lava Ireland said “We are very happy to be chosen as Ocean Lava’s partner here in Ireland. Ocean Lava’s ethos of athlete first, great value races run in a more relaxed yet professional style is an ethos to which we ourselves subscribe. I look forward very much to bringing our representatives from Ireland to the finals in Lanzarote in 2018.”

Killarney is accessible also via Kerry Airport and Cork International Airport which both are served by low-cost carriers from all over Europe. Kerry Airport is just 16km from Killarney. It is serviced by short, direct and inexpensive flights from Dublin, London Stansted, London Luton, Frankfurt Hahn, Manchester. There are also daily flights from Dublin to Kerry International Airport.
