North Wales event organiser Always Aim High Events has announced a ‘significant partnership with international cycling retailer and manufacturer Planet X Bikes’. Planet X will become the official bike and retail partner for all Always Aim High triathlon and cycling events in 2017, including events such as the Slateman Triathlon and the Tour de Mon.
Founded in Sheffield, England, over a quarter of a century ago, Planet X is still ‘run by riders, for riders, offering class-leading products at an unbeatable price’.
Spencer Smith, Event Marketing Manager at Planet X (and himself a three time world triathlon champion) said, “We have 30 years of our history and heritage grounded in triathlon with Planet X founder Dave Loughran competing in the mid 1980s. Starting the business in 1989 was a personal quest of his to import the latest triathlon products from San Diego, and the rest is as they say history.”
Smith continued, “Having competed myself extensively over the years and having seen the sport change and grow into the Goliath that it is today, these days there are many elements of the freshness and spirit of triathlon that have been lost and both myself and Dave recognise this.
“We decided to support Always AIm HIgh Events because we saw they had the soul and heart of the early years – great events, tough courses, and a not so self-important approach to life. That is what we wanted to support and we will both be on the start line at many of the 2017 Always Aim High Events.”
Tim Lloyd, Director at Always Aim High Events said, “We are absolutely delighted to announce that Planet X Bikes will be the official retail partner for the 2017 season and beyond, and [we] look forward to their active involvement and having a legend of triathlon Spencer Smith is a massive boost.
“Their clear vision and desire to make the highest quality bikes and components at ground breaking performance and value sets them apart. This completely ties in with our vision to deliver the most memorable, spectacular and iconic sporting events available anywhere in the world.”
The first event of the new partnership will be the Gran Fondo Conwy on 23 April 2017.
