Rain or shine (RoS): Castelli’s latest line tackles weather fluctuations

Castelli Alpha RoS jacket

Castelli has introduced what is being billed as ‘a new classification of performance cycling wear that shatters previous standards of innovation in the world of cycling wear’. According to the Italian cycle apparel specialist, ‘the struggle for the perfect jacket for temperamental weather has found its equilibrium in this extremely versatile kit from Castelli’.

Rain or Shine (RoS) is a new line of products from Castelli that are designed to be ‘phenomenal in dry weather, and your go-to jacket, tight or jersey for those cool or cold dry days, even when there is a chance of rain’.

Alpha RoS jacket
By using a combination of Gore’s new Windstopper light rain-resistant membrane, DWR treatment and selective seam sealing, careful seam placement and construction, and a waterproof YKK Vislon zipper – Castelli has made the RoS jacket ‘virtually waterproof while not compromising the characteristics that made it such a great dry-weather jacket’.

  • Rain or Shine engineering provides insulation and breathability for cold and dry rides, with effective waterproofing for wet rides
  • Gore Windstopper 150 fabric provides wind protection with high breathability and rain protection
  • Seam sealing on shoulders, reduced seaming and double stitching keeps the rider mostly dry
  • Alpha construction separates wind/water protection layer from insulating layer
  • Better ventilation and better moisture evaporation thanks to separate insulating layer
  • Partially covered waterproof YKK Vislon zipper slides easily and lies flat
  • Raw-edge waist lies flat and moves with the rider
  • Raw-edge wrist cuffs lie flat for an interface with gloves
  • Stretch fabrics with advanced patterning make for a close-to-body fit that still accommodates a wide range of body types
  • 3 rear pockets with reflective laser-cut drain holes
  • Weight: 515g

Alpha RoS jersey
The Alpha RoS Jersey is billed as the game changer for all jerseys for when the weather turns – and even when it doesn’t. With Windstopper waterproof fabric on front, sleeves, and lower back – the upper back is made with Castelli’s NanoFlex 2 water repellent finish, which allows the fabric to breathe, all while keeping water out. With breathability and aimed at usage over a wide temperature range, this jersey aims to be a ‘three season favourite, with near total water resistance’.

  • Lightweight double-layer wind jersey with significant rain protection
  • Windstopper 150 front and sleeves
  • Nano Flex Xtra Dry back for the ‘most significant non-membrane water protection available’
  • ProSecco Strada inner liner with 2nd front zip
  • Waterproof YKK Vislon zipper
  • Articulated collar that fits better whether standing or riding
  • Front zippered pocket
  • 3 rear pockets with reflective laser-cut drain holes
  • Raw-edge waist lies flat and moves with the rider
  • Advanced patterning makes for close-to-body fit
  • Weight: 380g

LW bib tight
Winters are arguably becoming less cold, and Castelli wanted to create the right bib tight for cool conditions. The upper portion of this tight is very similar to the brand’s Omloop bibshort, but what Castelli has done is brought the thermal protection down over the front of the knee and added a lower panel in with its water-repellent Nano Light fabric.

The LW bib tight aims to provide just enough warmth with full freedom of movement for long adventure rides in the autumn/fall, or early-season mild-temperature long base rides.

  • Lighter-weight bibtight for light winter conditions
  • Thermoflex fabric for warmth, stretch and breathability
  • Lower panel in Nano Light fabric for splash protection
  • Progetto X2 Air seat pad for long-distance comfort
  • Mesh bib straps to help regulate insulation with base layers, not the bib
  • Weight: 262g

Founded in Milan in 1874, Castelli ‘creates apparel that defines modern cycling’. Castelli USA is located in Portland, Oregon.
