A.S.O. and RPM-MKTG are joining forces to organise the Titan Desert by Garmin, a MTB stage race held in the mountains and deserts of Morocco since 2006. The strategic alliance between A.S.O. and Titan Desert organiser RPM-MKTG will aim to accelerate the international development of the race. The 13th edition of Titan Desert is scheduled to take place from 29 April to 4 May 2018 and start from Boumalne-Dadès in Morocco.
The Titan Desert by Garmin is seen as a magnet for those who love adventure and cycling. As a release from A.S.O explains, this is ‘just the ticket for the target public of A.S.O., the organiser of the Dakar Rally, the Tour de France and, particularly, the Roc d’Azur… The leading event in the world of MTB will now have a tougher stable-mate in Africa.’
After more than 20 years working together with RPM-MKTG (e.g. on the Barcelona half marathon and marathon, and the start of the 1995, 1996, 1999 and 2005 Dakar), A.S.O. is joining forces with the Spanish company to co-organise the Titan Desert by Garmin. The aim is to work side by side to expedite the international development of an event that attracted riders from over 30 nationalities in 2017.
The lands between the Atlas mountains and the Moroccan desert await over 500 riders starting on 29 April. The six stages of racing will test the cyclists’ mettle in the mountains and pit them against the extensive dune fields of the Merzouga region. The sports adventure is accompanied by a travelling bivouac ‘set up in the great outdoors every day’.
Seen as a taste of the Dakar Rally in the world of MTB – the new alliance between A.S.O. and Titan Desert organiser RPM-MKTG includes the launch of a ‘Titan World Series’ of MTB races in several countries, ‘without straying from the sense of adventure of the Titan Desert by Garmin’.
A.S.O. General Manager Yann Le Moenner said “RPM-MKTG has been one of A.S.O.’s closest partners for many years. This agreement is the next step in our collaboration and the beginning of a wonderful adventure. The Titan Desert by Garmin is a one-of-a-kind race that fits in perfectly with our ambition to always offer new experiences to our community of athletes, both in France and abroad.”
Dentsu Aegis Network Iberia & SSA CEO André de Andrade added, “We are very excited about this alliance between A.S.O. and RPM-MKTG, which shores up the consolidation of an event that was born in Spain 13 years ago and is now ready to play on the world stage under the impulse of the very best.”
He continued, “The experience gained and our recent achievements have proved that our project is robust, and we are now working with the best partner there is, world cycling leader A.S.O., to turn this event into the biggest MTB stage race. The internationalisation of the Titan World Series reflects our group’s determination to always fight to become market leaders and is testament to the outstanding work of the RPM-MKTG teams.”
RPM-MKTG General Manager Juan Porcar added “The Titan Desert by Garmin is much more than just a race – it’s a great MTB adventure. Throughout its history, 4,000 cycling fans have lived an unforgettable experience.
“A.S.O. and RPM-MKTG’s partnership will help the event to take on a whole new international dimension in terms of both outreach and participation.”
