True Grit Events, a new event management company based in Aberfeldy in the Highlands of Scotland has announced the launch of a unique, new event, the STARMAN Night Triathlon, which will take place in the Cairngorms on 19-20 August 2017.
Positioned as a sleepless, tough intimidating endurance challenge set under the Scottish stars, the middle distance triathlon with a difference will start at midnight on Saturday 19 August when brave men and women will slip into the inky black waters of Loch Morlich to take on the 1.2-mile swim. They will then transition to a 56-mile cycle along dark, silent Speyside roads before taking on the mighty Cairn Gorm summit in the final phase, a wild mountain half marathon.
Targeted at existing triathletes and fitness addicts looking for a different challenge, the STARMAN Night Triathlon is billed as the UK’s first night-time, mid-distance triathlon. Participants must have experience of open-water swimming, navigation, off-road running and hill climbing of at least 2500ft and can enter individually for £125 or £145 as a relay team.
Caroline MacKechnie, Director of True Grit Events said “We believe the STARMAN Night Triathlon will be one of the UK’s toughest triathlons and we are asking if people can find their True Grit in the dark. Whilst the event itself will really push people to their limit, running through the Cairngorms as dawn breaks as a finale to all that hard work and effort will be truly breath-taking.”
Set up by Andrew Hastings and Caroline MacKechnie, True Grit Events creates, builds and delivers endurance challenge events. The company’s mission is to run unique and challenging events in spectacular destinations, ‘giving everyone the opportunity to go further, train harder and achieve more than they ever thought was possible’. From hot tarmac to magnificent mountains, Andrew and Caroline have over 20 years’ combined experience in the endurance event industry. They have worked on some of the UK’s biggest and best known charity fundraising events and will continue this work with True Grit Events.
In 2017, True Grit Events will also manage The Cateran Yomp for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. The Yomp is an ultra-endurance challenge that saw almost 1,000 people walking or running 54 miles of the Cateran Way in June 2016. In its 7th year, the event is growing from strength to strength and True Grit Events adds that it is delighted to be on board as event managers this year.
Andrew Hastings said, “In an increasingly crowded, competitive events landscape, events have to be exceptional to survive. True Grit believes in being truly innovative, keeping things interesting and doing it safely.”
